Printing is one of the largest manufacturing industries in the United
States?employing over 1,173,000 people in almost 50,000 establishments,
and selling over $155.7 billion of products in 1999. The industry is
dominated by small- and medium-sized businesses, most employing fewer
than 20 employees.
