2011 Case Study: Via Christi Hospitals
Vishrut Patel was hired as a pollution prevention intern to work with the energy manager and facilities personnel to reduce peak demand for the St. Joseph and St. Francis hospitals, and explore new technologies for efficient HVAC and other operations. Patel worked with the building automation group to come up with optimum set points for the HVAC systems and data analysis for newer technologies like variable frequency drives, ice storage, etc. He worked on projects for more energy efficient light retrofits and feasibility of occupancy sensors. The solutions recommended by the intern were projected to save 1,685,175 kWh of electricity, which would be equivalent to a savings of $117,961 per year.
