Title:
2013 Case Study: SPX Cooling Technologies

Abstract:
In 2009, SPX Corporation began an environmental sustainability initiative in order to provide a healthier environment to their communities. As a part of this program, SPX hired intern Dana Bloom to work on energy reduction, wood waste reduction, and wastewater reduction projects. Bloom recommended that wood waste be diverted from the landfill and that compressed-air leaks be fixed, both of which have been partially implemented. Bloom also suggested a reduction in energy usage in the thermoforming process, as well as lower water waste during the cooling process of the extruded PVC material. These recommendations are projected to save SPX up to $138,091 per year.
