This portion of the Washington State Department of Ecology web site focuses on environmentally responsible management of pharmaceutical waste. Sections include a link to a fact sheet; information on conditional exclusion for the disposal of controlled substances, legend drugs and over-the-counter drugs; FAQs; best management practices; defining dangerous waste; a flowchart to assist in pharmaceutical waste management decisions; and resources for further information. The best management practices section includes material on the following specific wastes: cough syrups; empty syringes; inhalers; injectable liquids; IV liquids; mixed solutions, suspensions, ointments and creams; mercury-containing pharmaceuticals; tablets and capsules; and vitamin and mineral preparations.
